Save the Terminal, Inc. records, 1931-1997 (bulk 1972-1974).

The bulk of these papers are correspondence and cover the years 1972-1976. There are letters and petitions from concerned Cincinnati citizens with a variety of suggestions for the use of the terminal and rotunda. Quite a bit of the correspondence relates to Save the Terminal, Inc. trying to gather money from businesses to preserve and move the murals. There are also some newspaper clippings and printed material included by either date or article name.

Cincinnati's Union Terminal was completed in 1933 and was a major hub of railroad traffic before the dominance of the automobile. By the 1970s there was little traffic going through the terminal. In July of 1972 the Southern Railroad announced plans to tear down the concourse portion of the Cincinnati Union Terminal in order to expand the facilities for its "piggy-back" freight trains.
